Empathic Research for designing a mid-school learning solution.

A Design Thinking led approach to uncover and understand the potential learning gaps among the Elite Middle-school space, and explore Strategic directions for Product development.



Study was conducted among 3 prominent stakeholders involved in the education of a child- Students, Teachers and Parents. The aim was to understand different factors, approaches and perspectives contributing to the learning process of the middle-schoolers.




Snapshot of Process


An empirical study was designed for understanding the prospective learning gaps in Affluent Middle schoolers & uncovering strategic directions for a new learning solution.


Sample Size 15 Kids : 5 Teachers : 2 Parents

 

Phase 1: Contextual Study

Quick street intercepts were conducted with 7 kids, 1 school principal, 1 tuition teacher, 1 arts teacher


A quick Observatory research and Intercepts were conducted with students and teachers to gain perspective about a middle schooler’s life. The objective of the study was to identify opportunities and redefine the scope for an in-depth study.


 

Phase 2: Immersive Study

An in home immersive study, through interactive activities were conducted with 5 students, 2 teachers & 2 parents


The findings from Phase 1 helped us redefine the problem space. Using these learnings, Research tools and activities were designed to deep dive into the behaviours & pain points, of the identified stakeholders.


 

Phase 3: Synthesis & Sense making



Data collected from intercepts and interviews was deconstructed, transcribed and clustered. Patterns were mapped regarding perspectives which were established through affinity mapping and insights were drawn to uncover strategic directions for a learning solution.
